Spring Fling

They tell me it's spring... And with Easter right around the corner, I'll have to believe them. It's time to Spring clean and do a little redecorating, remodeling and reconnecting with family and friends.

Several of our vendors are having Spring Sales, eager to clear out some items and make room for more. We also have a new vendor that will be joining the Village Treasures family on May 1st!

Looking for that special something for the dining room, a unique Easter present for your niece or nephew, or creative ideas for your home, garden, or office? Be sure to come by this weekend and spend some time browsing. You may just find the bargain you've been looking for!

Ladder Logic

I'm in love with this idea! And, so disappointed that I, being married to a painter with more than one ladder laying around, didn't think of it first!

DIYlife.com recently posted an article about "taking an old ladder to new heights". The full article can be seen here.

Recycling has become an art form. Transforming no-longer-used items into something again, not only useful, but uniquely beautiful!

I remember when Steve was working on an older home and brought home to Denise an old window frame from the house. They put a scenic print behind the glass, and voila! They had a beautiful picture for their living room!

Again, why didn't I think of that?

My son worked with my painter husband one summer and commented on how cool it would be to reuse the house shutters to make a room divider like one he'd seen at a local antique store.

Awesome idea!

So when your remodeling your home this spring and summer, rummaging through tag sale items or shopping at Village Treasures, be sure not to toss out or pass over those items that can be recycled into something you can make uniquely yours!

And then please pass those ideas along to me because I apparently have no vision of my own.

Breaking News

I recently had friends over for dinner, and my girl friend was helping me get things ready in the kitchen. When she pulled out a dish that had been handed down to me from my grandmother, she commented on its beauty and suggested we use it. Although I didn't immediately tackle her to the ground and wretch it out of her hand, she could tell by my expression and quick "Oh no, we can't use that! It might break!" that she had better quickly, yet carefully, back away from the dish...

When my grandmother lovingly gave me the dish when I was 11 years old, I imagine she pictured the cherished dish being used not sitting empty in my curio cabinet. Why is it then that we find ourselves fearful to put to use those items?

After my friend was a safe distance away from the dish, she told me that when her mother handed down her dinnerware to her, her mother told her to "Use it! And, when you break it, remember the night and how much joy it brought you to share it with others."  Not if... when.

My curio cabinet is filled with treasures just like my grandmother's dish. All displayed perfectly for all to see. But in reality, who's going to see it in there? Do my visitors come over and stand at my curio cabinet in awe admiring each item? No. But when we sit at the table for the meal we prepared together and they see the beautiful pattern on my mother-in-law's china, they can't help but comment on it.

I've shared with them something special, making them feel special in return. Isn't that what it's about?

And when one breaks? At least I'll know it was enjoyed to the fullest, and I can remember the night it was shared. Grandma would be please I think.
